Wellness Destination: Khepera Wellness, Washington, DC
If you’re in the DC area and are looking for pop-up yoga classes to participate in, definitely try Khepera Wellness! Khepera Wellness is a social enterprise company that hosts diverse wellness experiences in unique spaces. According to their website, Khepera Wellness offers yoga classes and workshops that evolve student's relationships to their personal power to grow through an innate focus on mindfulness and wellness. They offer fun classes like Trap Yoga (a Power Yoga class from the Ashtanga tradition set to pulsating Trap beats). I took a Trap Yoga class last week, and it’s so fun and quite a different experience from the other yoga offerings in the DC area. A more restorative practice is also available via the Restorative R&B Yoga class if you’re not into the upbeat pace of Trap Yoga.
Khepera Wellness, which was founded by Howard University alum, Brandon Copeland offers approachable classes for experienced yogis and newbies who might feel marginalized in other studios in the city. To be quite honest, you can easily walk into some studios in the area and see virtually no diversity in age, race, ethnicity, ability, or socio-economic status. But you see quite the opposite in Khepera Wellness classes. Kherpera Wellness classes are currently being held on in a few locations in the city: Trinity University’s campus, Red Rocks on H Street, NE and Sweat DC. But be sure to check out their website for the latest details on class locations and schedules.
