It’s a blue algae that is cultivated worldwide. “Spirulina” describes two species of  blue-green algae: Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima. Also known as a cyanobacteria, which describes spirulina’s beautiful color, spirulina is rich in chlorophyll and protein and could have a number of positive effects on the body. spirulina isn’t single-celled (unlike other algae forms like chlorella), making it more bio-available for the body (source).
