Wellness Destination: Green Soul Cafe, Philadelphia, PA

Philly has long been a foodie destination for natives and visitors alike, but if you are looking for a spot with healthier fare to try, check out Green Soul Cafe. Green Soul which originally opened in 2011, opened in 2018 in its new location on North Broad Street (Fairmount/Spring Garden area) from the Chestnut Hill area of the city. Green Soul was originally opened by restaurateurs brother duo Robert and Benjamin Bynum. The brothers are known for opening an array of businesses in the city including the jazz club /restaurant Zanzibar Blue among several others.

Green Soul has a healthier take on soul food inspired dishes and has counter service during the day and table service in the evenings. The Green Soul menu has gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan meal options. They also have an array of smoothie options on their lunch menu and cocktail and mocktail options on their dinner menu. They have a kombucha cocktail option that I’ll sample on my next visit for dinner. I tried the turkey chilli on my first visit which was delicious, but look forward to sampling more menu options on a future visit. Green Soul also has live music, poetry readings, and other performance while you dine on there soul food inspired fare. An array of artists have performed at Green Soul already including my mother, Pheralyn Dove, a Philly-based poet and performance artist.
